This morning as I was considering the fact that I had such great plans for a Mother’s Day series that was supposed to begin 4 weeks ago and be completed by today, I felt like such a failure. I had allowed other responsibilities in life to take me away from this goal. Another disappointment. One more thing on my to-do list that I did not get done. And then I began to wonder, how many of you feel the same way? We are moms, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, friends and wives and we are driven, passionate, busy, working, teaching, caring, protecting, sharing and striving and we are altogether tired and weary.
May I just ask, who has put all these demands on you beloved? It is not your friends, not your mother or sister, most likely not even your husband or children! And, it is most definitely not your Saviour. You are loaded down with a burden you weren’t meant to carry. You have a to-do list a mile long that you have written out with your own hands. And you feel guilt over not having completed it, pressure to complete it, hopelessness because you keep adding to it and anger for even having it. Your husband doesn’t have a list like this! Dear one, do not feed into the lie the world or the devil or you are telling yourself! You are complete in Christ! You do not have to finish that list, you do not have to DO anything other than just rest in Him! Matthew 11:28, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Stop comparing yourself to a character on television, your neighbor or friend, your mom or even the Proverbs 31 woman!! She is not real you know. She is a chapter in the Bible meant to encourage us to be more like Christ. An example, an encouragement, and exhortation to keep “forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Phil. 3:13) not a demand to keep adding more things to your list! Christ does not demand these things from us, we demand them of ourselves! Remember Mary and Martha? Martha was a doer. She had a long list. And she was mad at Mary for not helping her with her list! She went to Christ to COMPLAIN about that very fact and what did He tell her? But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:41-42
And so beloved, I ask you to choose, as Mary did, the One Thing that is needful, the good part. Jesus is that Good Part, He is needful, He is our peace, our rest, our righteousness. Rest in Him today! Because He created you and loves you just as you are plus nothing! And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power. Col. 2:10
With love from above,
